Our small, congenial firm is seeking a Law Clerk/Legal Assistant to join our growing team.
Position Overview:
We are looking for a dynamic individual to support our practice areas, including corporate/commercial law, wills and estates, provincial offence prosecution, litigation, labour and employment, and general legal work for our clients. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to tailor their focus based on their skills and interests. Interest and experience in corporate/commercial law and in POA court would be an asset.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with corporate transactions, including due diligence searches, incorporations, and corporate reorganizations, and the preparation of corporate documentation for governance matters.
- Register, amend, renew, and cancel business names and partnerships, and update and review corporate minute books.
- Assist in the prosecution of POA matters, including preparation of disclosure packages, communication with defence counsel and docket preparation.
- Assist lawyers in other areas as required, including litigation preparation, drafting wills, and other general legal work.
- Participate in client meetings and calls, providing comprehensive support.
- Lead logistics planning and file management, including coordinating workflows and tracking deliverables.
- Draft documents, letters, and presentations.
- Support office management tasks.
- Communicate effectively with clients and team members.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in law firms is an asset.
- Strong computer knowledge in Office365, Microsoft Outlook and other related software.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to format documents with precision.
- Familiarity with Ontario Business Registry and Corporations Canada.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Highly organized and meticulous.
- Ability to work independently.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities.
- Knowledge of First Nations in Treaty 9, Treaty 5, Treaty 3, and Robinson Superior treaty areas.
