Edwards Bell Jewitt LLP is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic associate lawyer to join our team in Thunder Bay, serving clients across Treaty 9, Treaty 5, Treaty 3, and Robinson Superior treaty areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive wills and estates services for clients living on reserve.
  • Enhance our corporate/commercial offerings to First Nations, Indigenous organizations, and businesses.
  • Depending on the candidate’s skills and interests, assist with labour and employment matters, First Nations governance issues, policy development, litigation, and economic development matters.
  • Deliver creative and efficient legal solutions to complex issues.
  • Manage multiple files and matters independently and as part of the team.
  • Travel to communities as required, including small planes, winter roads, and northern Ontario highways.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Preferably at least two years’ experience in wills and estates and/or corporate/commercial law, but we welcome candidates of different years of call.
  • J.D. or equivalent, and member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and individuals.
  • Knowledge of the First Nations of Treaty 9, Treaty 5, Treaty 3, and Robinson Superior treaty areas.
  • Ability to multi-task and juggle multiple files.
  • Positive team attitude and ability to work independently.
  • Strong desire to serve Indigenous people, communities, and Nations.
  • Flexibility in handling various types of legal work.
  • Creative thinking and efficient client service.
  • Willingness to travel to remote communities.

We offer a competitive salary and bonus structure (range depending on experience) and extended benefits. Our office is based in Thunder Bay, but we are willing to discuss remote work opportunities for the right candidate.
