DAWNE MOWBRAY

B.A., H.B.A., M.E.S., J.D.
Barrister, Solicitor, and Notary Public

Dawne’s lifelong love for Northwestern Ontario inspired her educational path and life’s journey.  Even though her career took her across Canada, NWO has once again called her home.

Dawne has an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Geography, focusing on sustainability, conservation, and economic development.  She later received her Master of Environmental Studies.  Her thesis analyzed Parks Canada policy and related domestic and international law concerning National Marine Conservation Areas and the ability to combine environmental integrity concerns with economic development potential.

She has worked as a consultant in economic development for First Nations.  She has also provided research on various social issues including an examination of the multi-intersectional challenges of Indigenous women in natural resource development, and ways to streamline Indigenous students’ access to counselling.  She was a senior policy analyst with the Assembly of First Nations, and later, a senior project management advisor and secretariat for the Minister’s Advisory Council on Indigenous Women with the BC government.

A few years ago, she returned to school again, this time to become a lawyer. She is currently enjoying the interesting challenges of Indigenous Wills and Estates law and the fun of travelling and meeting the people of Northern Ontario.

Dawne grew up in Thunder Bay, canoeing and camping during the summer, and snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in winter.  Years later she is still enjoying the trails, but now she hikes or runs, especially in the winter!  Dawne was also a professional musician for years and still tickles the ivories.
