Gianella Garcia
Law clerk

Originally from Peru, Gianella holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science Pre-Law degree from Lakehead University, where she was named to the Dean’s List for four consecutive years. In 2024–2025, she received the Equity and Diversity Lakehead Award for her commitment to fostering inclusion and diversity within the university community.
During her time at Lakehead, Gianella founded and served as President of the first Latin American Association and co-founded the Lakehead Law and Politics Association, where she served as Co-Vice President. She represented Lakehead University at Carleton’s Model NATO in Ottawa, serving on the Military Committee as the delegate for Poland. She also completed an academic exchange program in Germany, focusing on International law, European law, and sustainability policies.
Passionate about advocating for international students and the Latin community, Gianella worked with Lakehead International and student associations to help newcomers settle into life in Thunder Bay, fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment.
Outside of her academic and professional pursuits, Gianella enjoys sports, swimming, cooking, and dancing.
